Do Actors Really Need a LinkedIn Profile?

If you've been following our Stage Door Designs blog for awhile, you know that we've talked a lot about the importance of social media in our industry. We have explained the benefits of profiles on platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. However, we have noticed that many of our clients do not have LinkedIn profiles. So, today we're going to talk about why you should have a profile on this social network.

What is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a social network platform that operates similarly to facebook. Users can make posts, share links and media, connect with other users and follow groups that interest you. In addition, LinkedIn also allows users to connect with potential employers and search for jobs. Due to this, LinkedIn rightfully has a reputation as being the "business" social network. Many performers assume that this means it doesn't fit well into the world of the arts. However, we cannot forget that show business is after all...a business!

Improved SEO / searchability
Just like any other social network, having a LinkedIn profile that is active will add a boost to your name's searchability. We say "active" here because simply creating a profile and never using it isn't going to cut it. You should create a LinkedIn profile and load your professional media, resume, and references. Be sure to link your website and other socials to interconnect your brand and drive more traffic to your online profiles!

Networking
This may be obvious, but social networks are about networking! On LinkedIn you can connect with other artists you have worked with as well as industry professionals. You never know when a connection will lead to a performance gig!

Side Gigs
It is no secret that our industry is a tough one, and that sometimes there are gaps between our performance jobs that are longer than we would like. LinkedIn is a great place to find opportunities to make income when you aren't on stage. Connecting with others can lead to freelance opportunities. You can also use the platform to identify skills that you may not even realize you had!

No matter what your situation, it is wise to have a LinkedIn profile. At the very least, it will boost your SEO and get more people finding you in searches. If you need help with LinkedIn or any other social media, reach out to us today!
