Georgia Child Actor Work Permits

Now is a great time to learn some of the basics involved in the business side of child acting! Work permits are necessary for all working children hoping to snag a role in popular shows and movies. After California, Georgia is the most popular hub for entertainment production where both Netflix and Disney shoot. Below, we will outline the requirements for obtaining a Georgia Child Work Permit.

1. All minors working in entertainment must obtain a work permit to legally work.

2. Potential employment is necessary to obtain a GA work permit. This means you must have a job offer in order to secure a permit, and cannot get one before having a viable job offer.

3. Once you have potential employment, you can apply for a work permit online at https://dol.georgia.gov/get-youth-work-permit-online. You will need to supply some basic info such as SS number, DOB, address, Parent information, etc.

4. Once you have submitted this form, it will be sent on to the Employer to fill out their end of the permit.

5. Once the employer has completed their section of the permit, the final section must be completed by a legitimate issuing officer. An issuing officer can be a superintendent of a school or their designee or a principal administrative officer at a licensed private school. If you are homeschooled, you can contact the Georgia Department of Labor Child Labor Unit to complete the issuing officer section of the permit.

6. Once these steps are complete, you are ready to work in the Peach State!

It may not be the most glamorous topic, but being prepared, informed, and ready to get down to business can give you a leg up in your career!
