HTTP vs. HTTPS
We often get tech-related questions from our clients, and perhaps the most common one is “What are HTTP and HTTPS, and which one do I need?”. In short, HTTPS is better than HTTP, and we’ll explain why!
First off, we need to understand what HTTP and HTTPS are!
HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol, and HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. As the name implies, the biggest difference between the two is that HTTPS is much more secure than HTTP.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol refers to the web tool that handles communication between your website and user accessing it. This means that HTTPS domains keep your data and media more secure, which of course is what we all want!
HTTPS is a more recent technology than HTTP, and so some of our clients who have had websites for a long time might still have an HTTP domain. If you are concerned about the security of your domain and are interested in upgrading to HTTPS, click here to schedule a time to chat with us!
PRO TIP: Some browsers are setup in such a way that they do not allow access to sites without HTTPS. This means that if your website isn't properly equipped, people may not be able to view it! If you are having this issue on your website, reach out to ellen@stagedoordesigns.com and we will sort it out!
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions about your website and domain security!
